The Save the Children’s Family Grant Programme has been developed to support our vision of ending child poverty in the UK. We will do this by providing short term financial relief to families through grants and from this strengthen community partnerships and using the data we obtain from the Application Form build a picture of the best way to support families and advocate for change. Capturing the information in the Application form is therefore an integral and important element of our grant programme.
The questions in the Application Form have been chosen to capture the data we need to build a picture of child poverty in our UK communities. We have tried to build in more ‘drop down’ boxes to make it easier for Referral Partners to complete - we appreciate the time it takes to work through these questions with the families.
There is now just one ‘free-text’ question “Please provide a short summary of the family’s circumstances that have led to this referral”. The purpose of this question is to put into context the family situation. PLEASE AVOID USING NAMES for the answer as we wish to use this data to help with our analysis. Please refer to mum, parent, child or she/her, he/him, they/them or refer to people as A, B or C.
All the questions are mandatory on the form, but some questions will have the option to choose ‘Prefer not to say’ if the family does not want to answer.
Towards the start of the Application Form you will be asked to complete 3 Consent questions on the family’s behalf. Please take the time to talk through the questions with the family and record their responses on the form. Declining consent will NOT have an impact on the receipt of a grant. One of the three questions asks if the family would be interested in supporting our work. Please make the family aware that if they tick the box they will be provided with further information about what support might look like and they can withdraw their support at any time.
Step 1
From the homepage, select New application.
For help logging in, click here.
Step 2
The application consists of five pages, taking time to complete each page as accurately as possible.
Step 3
Once the information is filled out you will be shown a summary page, where you can review the information entered.
If the application is approved, the vouchers will be issued to the email address and phone number entered here. It is essential they are correct and the applicant has access to the inboxes.
If anything needs to be updated, click Back. The information you entered will be remembered, so make any amendments needed and continue to the summary page.
Once all information is correct, click Submit application.
Step 4
The result will be calculated using the information provided; this should take no longer than a few minutes.
Application declined
If the application is declined, it will be because the information entered did not meet the criteria for receiving a voucher or the application has been flagged as a duplicate. A family will be flagged as a duplicate if they have already received a Save the Children grant within the last year.
If you believe the decision was incorrect, there will be the option to refer the decision to Save The Children for review. You will be asked to give information as to why you believe this decision is correct, so please provide as much detail as possible.
This information will be reviewed by Save the Children, who will provide you with a response as soon as possible.
Application approved
Step 5
If the application is approved, click Choose voucher.
Step 6
The email address the voucher will be sent to and the voucher value are displayed at the top of the page.
The voucher value is preset and cannot be changed.
Now we select if we wish to split the voucher, and which retailers will be available for the recipient to choose from.
Do you want to split the voucher?
Splitting the voucher gives us the ability to divide the total value and turn it into multiple vouchers with smaller values. Splitting the voucher gives the recipient the flexibility of using their grant at more than one retailer, and is recommended.
Not splitting the voucher - The recipient receives one voucher with a value of £300, where they can choose one retailer.
Splitting the voucher - The recipient receives multiple vouchers, and they can choose one retailer for each.
For example:
A recipient needs help paying for a foodshop and paying towards a washing machine. We can split the voucher so that they receive two vouchers, one of which they can choose as a Tesco voucher, and the other for Argos.
Regardless of how the voucher(s) are split, once the retailer has been selected it cannot be changed and is subject to the retailers terms and conditions.
Where can the voucher be used?
Once the recipient receives their voucher, they can choose which retailer they wish the voucher to be for, from the choices selected here.
Select all retailers to give them the choice that suits them best.
If you are splitting the voucher, the choices here will apply to all of the vouchers.
To see how this will appear to a recipient, click here.
Step 7
Choose how/if the voucher will be split.
The default will be Yes to splitting the voucher, and the choice of how will be shown below.
Splitting the voucher gives the recipient the flexibility of using their grant at more than one retailer, and is recommended.
Step 8
Press Select all retailers and click Next.
Step 9
Confirm the details, then click Send voucher.
Once the voucher has been issued, the available retailers and how the voucher is split cannot be changed.
Step 10
The application is now complete and the voucher will be sent to the recipient.
Vouchers are typically sent within 2-3 minutes, although it can take longer during peak periods.
